THE POSITION
Our roster has an opening with your name on it
FanDuel is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Responsible Gaming team. You will play a key role in creating best-in-class regulatory experiences for our customers by building scalable, flexible solutions that satisfy regulatory requirements across the US and Canada. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will work in empowered, multidisciplinary teams, autonomously tackling complex challenges that provide the very best experiences and products for a growing community of millions of players.
Our Responsible Gaming team's mission is to create a best-in-class regulatory experience for our customers. We do this by working with internal stakeholders and our Regulatory Partners to build scalable, flexible solutions to satisfy regulatory requirements in jurisdictions across the US and Canada. We strive to build internal tools that have clear contracts and are easy to integrate with to enable teams across FanDuel’s portfolio.
In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.
THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play
- You own parts of product and technology & strive to become a subject matter expert
- You execute large projects to a very high standard — e.g. against a tight deadline with significant consequences of failure, or in a manner that allows rapid learning to clarify significant ambiguity, or to a standard of quality well exceeding that of the current system
- You make correct technology choices for components needed as part of a larger architecture, including making build vs buy choices for specific components, and choosing frameworks
- You are capable of owning the overall health and engineering quality of a system or collection of features - e.g. driving regular health reviews, curating test strategy, etc. - and ensuring that the health and maintenance of my systems do not depend on the maintainers having my expertise
- You design software components that are difficult to misuse and flexible in the face of an increase in the number of adjacent use cases as appropriate to the direction of the business (neither under nor over-designed)
- You reduce complex designs and concepts to simple foundational components through correct choices of data structures, applications of algorithms, or other deep insight into the problem space and create simple interfaces to complex underlying systems
- When necessary, you are able to help my manager introduce change into the organization. I help others understand the business case, create excitement for and drive adoption of this change
- You invest time to coach and mentor my teammates (particularly ones looking to grow into L4/L5). I consider their skills, backgrounds, working styles and solicit and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to them
- You act as a partner to your manager in setting the cultural tone for the team. I help create an inclusive environment of psychological safety to support connection, empathy, and productive conflict where dissenting, and diverse opinions are valued and addressed
- You have a holistic view of the engineering org, customer insights and FanDuel's goals and use my experience and judgment to make decisions optimized for the wider org, rather than my local project alone
- You write simple and extendable code following standards and best practices. You test your code thoroughly. You help balance customer requirements with the team requirements
- You help your team evolve by actively participating in the code review process, design discussions, team planning, and support ticket reviews
- You take on projects and make software enhancements that improve the team software and processes
- You work to resolve the root cause of complex problems, leaving software better and easier to maintain than when you found it
- You estimate stories/tasks accurately and deliver them in time. You keep yourself up to date with industry tools, utilities, and open-source frameworks
- You participate in the interview process and help your team train other Software Engineers
- You will keep yourself up to date with market standards and open-source frameworks
- You participate in the on-call support rotation for your organization
- Most importantly, be humble, pragmatic, self-managed, thirsty for knowledge, never satisfied and always challenging the norm
THE STATS
