THE POSITION

The VP of Engineering – Flywheel will play a critical leadership role in driving the engineering teams that build and manage our Fantasy, Retail, Racing and F2P teams. You will lead a talented team of engineers responsible for building and maintaining the platform services that power our products and services. This role requires a blend of communications, strategic thinking, technical expertise, and strong leadership skills to ensure our platform is scalable, reliable, and aligned with the company’s objectives.

In this role, you will develop and execute the strategic vision for the Flywheel engineering organization, ensuring it aligns with the overall business objectives. Collaboration with executive leadership is crucial to define platform goals, metrics, and roadmaps. You will lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Attracting, retaining, and developing top engineering talent is key to building a high-performing and motivated team.
You will oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and secure platforms and services, ensuring the platform supports the needs of various product teams and stakeholders by providing robust APIs, tools, and frameworks. Implementing best practices for engineering, including continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), monitoring, and incident response, is essential to maintain operational excellence. Ensuring high availability, performance, and security of platform services with a focus on minimizing downtime and technical debt is a critical responsibility.
Collaboration and communication are fundamental to this role. You will work closely with product management, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs. Communicating Flywheel engineering plans, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders ensures transparency and alignment. Staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices is vital to drive innovation and competitive advantage. You will evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and processes to enhance platform capabilities and efficiency.
Managing the Flywheel engineering budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, and investment in strategic initiatives is another key responsibility. Optimizing resource utilization to balance short-term needs with long-term platform growth and sustainability is essential.

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on platform or infrastructure engineering.
- 5+ years of leadership experience in a senior engineering role, such as Director or VP of Engineering.
- Proven experience with leading geographically dispersed teams
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Passion for technology and innovation, with a continuous learning mindset.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of how platform engineering impacts overall business success.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.

The applicable salary range for this position is $239,000 - $329,000, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
