Software Engineer - Python

Location:Edinburgh / Hybrid

The requirements listed in our job descriptions are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. You don’t have to satisfy every requirement or meet every qualification listed. If your skills are transferable and you are in the ballpark experience-wise, we'd love to speak to you.

FanDuel Group is a world-class team of brands and products that deliver sports betting, gaming and entertainment to millions of US sports fans every day. That’s no easy task, and wouldn't be possible without a fantastic team who have helped us pioneer new products and innovative features that make us a leader in the industry. Whether you’re looking for better career progression, improved financial security or just a better sense of belonging, we believe we’ve created a culture in which everyone can succeed, no matter how you got here.

The Position

Joining our Release Engineering team, you will be a Software Engineer with experience working in a cloud environment with Python (or similar). You’ll be working in an internal development team focusing on improving our developer services and tooling by automating controls for our production systems.

In this role you’ll get to see the benefit that you provide to your customers (our other development teams) on a daily basis, and see the positive impact and difference you can make to their working lives.

As the team expands, there is a growing focus on security controls which will help our teams comply with state and federal regulations for our products (we create tools that help them to be compliant, we don’t do any auditing).

Our stack includes: Python, AWS, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, Lambda, Aurora, S3, AWS API gateway and Buildkite. We don’t expect experience with all of these - the team will support you in learning and developing your skillset, and FanDuel advocates for continuous learning!

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and supporting tools/frameworks that automate how development teams manage production changes and release data
  • Helping to improve deployment frameworks, services and tooling
  • Creating and promoting best practices generally in your role, but specifically around managing deployment artifacts
  • Implementing artifact approval controls
  • Building out change monitoring solutions
  • Following best practices to create high quality code
  • Be a team player, reflecting FanDuel values everyday

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in application development (ideally Python)
  • Experience with CI tools and managing their deployment controls (e.g. gated promotion pipelines in Jenkins)
  • Understanding of source control management and integrations (e.g. GitHub configurations)
  • Experience building cloud-based solutions and configurations (ideally with AWS)
  • Keen to learn and work with new technologies
  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues across the company

What You Can Expect

  • Interesting work - working in a fast-paced and ever-changing industry, new problems and exciting solutions are never too far away. There are always opportunities to learn new skills and broaden your horizons
  • A sense of achievement - Our teams own their own software and when that awesome new feature ships to users and the positive feedback starts rolling in, you can feel really proud of what you and your team created
  • Personal development - clear and defined career pathways for every role at every level, a supportive manager, loads of learning opportunities and even 10% of your time to dedicate to your learning.
  • Belonging - everyone at FanDuel works for each other, we win together, make mistakes together and have lots of fun doing it.
  • Trust - A trusting work environment where productivity is valued above all else, giving you autonomy and ownership of your time and work
  • Great financial package - Including salary, bonus, pension, private healthcare, share save scheme, flexible working & holiday policy along with a number of other benefits.

The Interview Process

  • Recruiter Screening - 30mins
  • Competency Interview - 60mins
  • Technical Paired Programming Exercise (Python) - 60mins
